proud.

yes, i know. i haven't blogged in awhile. i keep meaning to, but it's been so busy lately, getting ready for my mom's party and all that. stay tuned for those pics, they're a comin' this week sometime. and square dancing pics! i haven't forgotten about those.

today was the big manitoba marathon here in winnipeg. otherwise known as d-day for kent. he'd been training for this day for months and it was his first race.

i didn't go with him at 5:30 in the morning (are you kidding me?). i opted instead to head over to watch him cross the finish line around 9 am. i tried to plan my route so i would avoid all the closed roads, but apparently forgot about one and was stuck behind a drove of full marathon runners only 10 mins into my drive. i started to panic, thinking i wouldn't make it there in time to see him. and what do you know? less than 10 mins after i arrived at the university, there was kent - a full 15 mins before he was supposed to have been at that marker! i was actually so surprised that i didn't have my camera ready, and between that, the sun right in my eye, the fact that i didn't even know what he wore that morning and the fact that i've been having to wear my glasses due to an eye condition (read: no sunglasses), i totally missed getting a picture of him running. i was literally about a split second too fast on the trigger. see the volunteer in the orange safety vest? yeah, kent's just behind her. groan.

i tried to run into the stadium to see him actually cross the finish line but was too late. my family saw him, though. maybe they got a picture?

here's kent downing a carton of chocolate milk like it's goin out of style right after the race. looks like a 'got milk' ad, no?
here's him and alan, a family friend of ours. they carpooled together that morning. alan ran the race last year in around 2:30, and his goal this year was also 2 hrs. his official time? 2:05:25. not bad!
oh, and if you're wondering, kent's official time was 1:48:35. he was so excited, as he was aiming for 2 hrs and wasn't even sure he'd hit that. i think he can thank his adrenaline. oh, and the beer he drank at mile 7 :) either way, i was so proud of him today!
